FAQ

How many sessions will I need?

Although everyone is different, it typically takes 4-6 sessions for most people to feel like their therapy journey has helped them achieve significant change in relation to the problems that were holding them back.

The journey can sometimes be longer, sometimes shorter.

Sessions can either be booked one by one, or in a discounted package (4 or 6 sessions).

Why is Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy unique?

When we work together, I see you as the unique individual you are. Your therapy journey is completely tailored to you because your experiences, and the challenges that stem from them, are entirely your own.

Unlike approaches that apply standard techniques to labels like “stress” or “low confidence,” Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy recognises that your problem arises from your unique history and perspective. By deeply listening to your story, I create a personalised plan designed to help you move towards the life you want to live. This bespoke approach ensures the therapy aligns with your needs, helping you create lasting change.

What is trance in Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Trance in Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a natural and relaxed state that you already experience in daily life. It’s the feeling you get when you lose track of time watching a great film, become absorbed in a hobby, or drive somewhere and realise you don’t remember every part of the journey. These moments of inward focus are all forms of trance.

In hypnotherapy, trance is used to connect with your unconscious mind, where most patterns of thought and behavior are stored. It’s also the state your brain naturally enters when responding to certain challenges like anxiety, stress, or habits. Your unconscious triggers this state to protect you, even if the behavior isn’t helpful in the long term. Hypnotherapy works to gently “de-hypnotize” you from these unhelpful patterns and replace them with more positive ways of thinking and responding.

Will I lose control in trance?

Not at all! Trance in Cognitive Hypnotherapy doesn’t involve losing control. It’s more like a deeply relaxed state where you stay fully aware of what’s happening. As a therapist, I won’t make you do anything—this is a collaborative process, and you remain in control the entire time.

In fact, many clients enjoy being in trance because it’s such a calming and soothing state. Some even want to stay there after a session because it feels so good! Far from being a loss of control, trance empowers you to gain more control over your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

How do I know if I need therapy or coaching?

The most common way that I work with clients is a blend of cognitive hypnotherapy and coaching. Cognitive Hypnotherapy and coaching are really closely related, as both are forward facing and solution-focussed. However, therapy has the power to dig deeper into the reasons why you may feel stuck or not moving forward, e.g. anxiety, stress, lack of confidence.

But some people feel like they don’t have particular issues that they want to heal from, and simply want the help of a coach to get clear on their goals and move towards them with power and impact. If that’s the case, we can simply work together in a coaching format.

What happens between sessions?

Did you know that most change happens between sessions, rather than actually within them? I always ask clients to watch and be aware of any changes they notice, big or small, between sessions.

Sometimes I might suggest tools or techniques for my clients to practice between sessions.

I also supply clients with a bespoke hypnotic mp3 track, which is typically listened to daily, helping to embed deep and lasting change at the unconscious level.

Who do you work with?

My doors are open to clients from all walks of life and backgrounds. However, I have a particular specialism in working with those who identify as being from marginalised and underrepresented backgrounds working in the creative and cultural sector, as I have particular expertise in that area.

If you don’t identify as that, by all means still get in touch! I work with many clients from different backgrounds and work sectors.

Is there anyone you cannot work with?

Unfortunately cognitive hypnotherapy is contraindicated for those who have been diagnosed with a psychiatric condition or psychological illness, including schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, personality disorder, narcolepsy or any form of psychotic episode.

I may be able to work with clients who experience epilepsy, but this requires individual discussion on a case-by-case basis.
